Title says it all. I’ve been paying for 8 years but most of it paid in the last 2 years. Almost all federal student loans. No forgiveness. Did not make payments during the COVID pause period.

I feel like I should celebrate this, no? I have nothing special planned and don’t really have any particular purchases I want to make with the extra money I’ll have. But I feel like it should be a celebratory time.

I am making my final student loan payment this week. >$250k paid

    1. Holy cow. How much were you paying? I’ve been paying off 140k since 2003, still owe $23k and I paid during Covid by choice. Making no money sucks

Definitely celebrate! Congrats! I’d take a month or two’s worth of student loan payments and take a little vacation, or even just take a day off to go for a long, relaxing walk if you’d rather. Then you should have a very healthy budget to save for retirement or any long term goals you have.
