I’m 20M and halfway through my first year of a psychology degree. My grades are good, but my motivation is dropping fast. I think the some of the theory i'm learning is interesting, but I've never been very amazed with the material.

I’ve always been creative and entrepreneurial. I previously ran a small product & concert photography business and didn't only love the creative work, but also building something of my own. Recently I’ve shifted more toward usable arts like clothing and other physical projects, and that’s where most of my energy naturally goes.

I recently discovered a selective, free one-year entrepreneurship program (25 students per year) that focuses on building a brand/product, network, and market presence. I’d need a strong portfolio to get in, and I’m very motivated to spend time building toward that. I found out that, time-wise, the program is technically easy to combine with a study, but that’s not my issue.

My problem is mental space, not hours in the day. I’ve realized I struggle to seriously pursue both my degree and my own creative projects at the same time. When I know I need to study for a test but also want to work on my own projects, I end up doing neither.

So I'd like to quit, but I also feel like it's too early to quit and maybe I can combine the study with my creatives. Thinking about quitting makes me feel weak and guilty.

For people who’ve been in a similar situation: how did you decide whether to push through a degree or commit to a creative/entrepreneurial path? Did you regret choosing one over the other?

And people who haven't been in a similar situation. I'd also love to hear your advice.

    Thank you all in advance.

Dude you’re 20, not 40 – this isn’t some irreversible life decision. That entrepreneurship program sounds sick and honestly psych degrees are a dime a dozen these days anyway

The “mental space” thing is so real though, I totally get that. When your brain is constantly switching between school busywork and actual passion projects, nothing gets your full attention

Maybe take a gap year for the program and see how it goes? University will still be there if you want to come back, but opportunities like this might not be

    2. finish your degree. get something solid behind your name.

being a creative entrepreneur is a very, very tough path. you need all the help you can get.
