Hey all, there is probably and answer already on here, but it's kind of wordy to Google search.

    US NC Resident

Long story short, I briefly bundled renters insurance with my auto when my apartment complex was bought under new management.

Come to find out, they ended up keeping the same rental insurance company, so I could cancel my rental bundle. This was fine except I didnt realize they had duplicated my auto policy when they did this.

Honestly it was pretty pain free, about a 15 minute phone call and I was down to my original auto policy and refunded every penny for the duplicate I had paid to that point.

Well fast forward about 4 months, and this is fully (maybe?) on me, we check our mail. And I have a letter from the DMV threatening a civil suit and revoking my tags for cancelling liability. I'm 100% digital everything, the only mail I get is Amazon and the occasional credit card.

Now due to that, I do not check mail often at all. Like literally once a month. So I've already missed my deadline to respond and get this straight, as it was a non existent issue to me.

Obviously I'll have all the answers tomorrow, but it's bugging the shit out of me. Are there actual legal repercussions to this, or is our local DMV really just that dense?

    1. That’s odd. The DMV should have received notice of the new policy as well. Do the VIN numbers match?

Replacement policies happen all the time, thousands per day – while there can always be mistakes, there’s an automated process for these.
