I already called and had the application reported as fraudulent so they are going to cancel the credit card. They wouldn’t give me a billing address other than City and State. Is there a way for me to get that information legally? I suspect my mom did this since she has a history of doing this with my younger sister.

Someone stole my identity to attempt to open a CC in my name. I suspect it was my mom

Damn that’s rough, you might be able to file a police report and they could help you get more details from the CC company. Most places will give law enforcement way more info than they’ll give you directly

    2. Check your credit report to see if there’s any other fraud on your report.  If so, file a police report and then get let the lenders know.  Put a credit freeze with all three credit agencies to prevent this in the future.

    3. Typically once you declare it as fraud, they won’t disclose any details to you. Freeze your credit bureau accounts and move on with your life

Even if you could get details and file charges, it is extremely likely that nothing will happen

Warn your siblings and have them freeze their accounts

    4. File a police report. It helps with making sure you aren’t found responsible for any debts on it, and it establishes a precident/pattern if it is tried again

    5. Playing devils advocate. Your mom probably would have been successful since presumably she knows all your info (unless your credit was frozen/bad). Does the city match where she lives?

    6. File a police report. If your Mom opened it, then she is attempting to defraud you. At that point she needs to learn a lesson. It ain’t gonna be a cheap lesson either.

    7. Check her utilities, too. G&E, cable, phone, wifi.

When you call them, DO NOT tell them you didn’t authorize it until they give you the service address!!!
