I have been paying for my son’s car insurance since he got his license. He did not have a car so he was driving my car. It made sense that I should cover the cost it was only around $620 extra every 6 months.
He just bought his first car. He saved up and I helped pay for some of it.
I added his car to my policy.
I think he should start paying for some of the cost to insure the car. He does have a part-time job and the premium for his car is only around $670 for 6 months. He makes probably around $600 a month.
I thought I could have him pay $70 a month. Does that seem fair? He already agreed to pay it but he agrees to everything. I also don’t want him to get stressed about paying for stuff when he should be focusing on school.
Should I have my 17 year old son pay for some of his car insurance?

No. He’s 17. He’s at home. He’s at school. That’s not his car, it’s yours. 17 year olds can’t buy cars. But it does sound like you’re underinsured.
More than fair. I had my teens pay $50/mo (8 years ago… inflation). Every semester they met academic targets and held up their responsibilities around the house, etc I’d refund their premiums.
