    1. The first major heatwave of the year enters its second day with temperatures up to 47 degrees Celsius forecast in northern parts of South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales without real reprieve in sight until the weekend.

      The mercury is due to drop slightly today in coastal areas of Victoria and South Australia, but the relief is short-lived as temperatures are due to rise again tomorrow.

      It comes ahead of warnings of extreme fire danger weather across South Australia and Victoria on Friday, with bushfires already burning in Victoria’s north.
