Hi Everyone,
I found out in 2018 that I was issued the same social security number as someone with the same name, birthday, and place of birth as me. After finding out that this happened, I went to social security, and they issued me a new social security number. Ever since I was issued the new number, I have not been able to get any loans and anytime someone tries to do a credit check they either can not verify who I am or there is “No Fico Score” and nothing has been reported to my credit report. I recently made accounts to the 3 credit bureaus to see what is going on because after all this time I am still having issues (I figured with time things would fix themselves) I noticed that Transunion does not give me a score has literally zero information and has told me to have my creditors report to Transunion. Equifax does not give me a score but does has one account documented on the report and nothing else. Experian seems to be the only one that has most of my lines of credit etc.. but even still it is missing a bunch of stuff. None of them have my old car payments, any of my utilities bill, rent, the list goes on. How do I even go about trying to tackle this issue? Do I have to literally go back to everything I ever had credit wise make sure they have my current social and have them report it to all 3 bureaus?

Additionally, I am constantly getting harassed from multiple places for the other person who had the same social as me. I have been sent child support documentation for failed payments for a child that is not mine (almost had to go to North Carolina in person to court to prove I was not the person they were looking for). I have been sent many late payment notices for car payments, bills, etc. I was also arrested from by the DMV police for DMV fraud and suspended my license because they thought that I was committing fraud but they just did not have my new social security number.

I am in desperate need of help. Not only is this effecting my life financially it is also effecting the time and effort I have to prove that I’m not this other person. What should I do? Please feel free to ask any questions and I will gladly answer in hopes it points me in the right direction.

Was issued a new social security number and my life has been hell since, please help!

    1. Did you… Notify your banks of your new SSN? They are the ones who report to the bureaus, not the SSA. Did you update with your state/DMV? You aren’t being proactive, you’re reacting.

Regardless, you’ll have to get in touch with the bureaus (and your state) and get the banks to report the proper SSN. Step back and think of which entities need your new SSN and get proactive about telling them, stop waiting for problems to find you. It’s been 8 *years*

    2. Really the 2 people with the same social security number wasnt claimed on their parents income tax? Or didn’t file taxes?
