Hi, I am looking for a credit card to suit my lifestyle. I travel for work, but I use a company travel card to book all of my travel expenses. That means that I will not be charging my personal card for airlines, rental cars, or hotel expenses. Because of this, my largest expense is food spending up to about $1000 a month at restaurants/grocery stores. I also front daycare for my dog which equates to about $400 a month.

I have a discover card with a limit of $10,500.
    My fico score is 779
Age of accounts is 5 years, 2 months
Revolving utilization is <%5 a month because I usually pay off all of my expenses right away.
    I have 0 missed payments.

    1. Amex gold or chase sapphire preferred. Probably Amex gold though to use the Resy and dining credits

Since your travel expenses are covered by the company, it seems like a no annual fee cashback card would make sense. The c1 savor is solid, but 12 months with chase freedom unlimited (branch offer)sounds good for you. $300 sub, 5% gas and groceries, 3% dining, 1.5% on pet boarding.

    3. Citi Custom Cash is 5% for first $500 in purchases in a category every billing period. Get 2 of them.

Capital One Savor card gives 3% back on both dining and groceries with zero annual fee.

Amex Gold card earns 4X points on both dining and groceries with an annual fee of $325, but if you already use Uber, Uber Eats, Grubhub, Dunkin’ Donuts, Resy, etc. then the annual fee basically offsets itself.

Both of these cards are great in my opinion, so it all depends on what you value more, cashback or MR points.

    5. Unpopular opinion, but I think Amex Gold lost a lot of its shine when they upped the fee to $325. That’s a lot for only a marginal bump (1X) in earning when there are several 3X cards on the market for much less or free (CSP, Bilt, Savor, BoA CCR…to name a few).

I don’t personally think the credits make up for it, since I wouldn’t otherwise use Grubhub or Dunkin.

That said, if you can get a SUB, it may make sense to churn for a year or two.

Since you got an Amex, I’d suggest looking into how you can spend the points because they’re not always that great.

I was able to use them when Virgin Atlantic launched a new flight to my city (Seattle), but overall I found Amex points to be kind of expensive and unhelpful based on where I live and how I travel.

Also a lot of places like the cafeteria at my ski area, concession stands and bars didn’t count as Restaurants whereas all counted as dining with Chase and BofA.

More irritating than that, a lot of places don’t take Amex (starting with the diner next to my old office that I used to go for lunch all the time)

    7. I get upset when I remember there are ppl out there that got the OG savor grandfathered still with no annual fee 4x/% and that I was only 18 when that opportunity was closed

    8. Amex gold if the credits fit your lifestyle, otherwise c1 savor if you want a no annual fee card or citi strata premier if you want to get AA miles.
