Ok yall so this one is a doozy…. My brother texted me today and said on Monday 1/5, he noticed a zelle payment was made from his bank account. The zelle payment was showing he sent $250 to himself. The money left his bank account and it hasn’t shown back up. He does not have any other bank accounts.

He did contact the bank who told him if the money wasnt in his account tomorrow, to call them back. Has this happened to anyone before? Can hackers now make charges look like this? I mean i’ve literally never seen anything like this until now.

EDITED TO ADD, there is no zelle history of the payment. When he goes to the zelle section of his bank app (BMO), there is no past payment sent of $250 to himself no zelle transaction ID. it’s more like showing up as a charge rather than a zelle.

    1. Could this be a “Zelle payment to myself” scam? Though your brother would have likely had to be in contact with the scammer.  https://cuofga.org/why-being-asked-to-send-yourself-money-with-zelle-should-be-a-big-red-flag-dont-be-scammed-heres-how-to-keep-your-money-safe/
