Record-breaking King Tides in California and the context of sea level rise. Plus: El Niño cometh?—Climate scientist Daniel Swain livestream Jan. 7, 2026
Climate scientist Daniel Swain discusses the significant flooding event around the Bay Area this last weekend here. Where king tides, a *relatively* normal winter storm, and sea level rise coincided to give a glimpse of the future of what life along the Bay is going to look like. It was eye-opening to witness for anybody in the region. Especially just how much major expensive infrastructure is extraordinarily vulnerable. San Francisco Airport, the 101 Freeway, Moffett Field, Google, Meta, etc.

Well, I’ll be dead by end of this century but my child and grandchild will just have to deal with it. Amazing how much ‘environmental’ change can happen in a lifetime.
