I am considering this to save on paying for WiFi. Having had full fibre optic wifi tho and now considering this. Am I going to be disappointed in comparison?

Has anyone had both a compared them? Right now with mobile tethering my wifi is only able to get 10mbs download and 4mbs upload according to speed tests. If I got a router would that improve?

Just wanna know your thoughts. Thanks!

Will I regret using smarty unlimited as my home broadband inside a router?

Dude mobile data through a router is still gonna be mobile data speeds – the router won’t magically make it faster, just lets more devices connect to the same slow connection

Going from fiber to mobile broadband is definitely gonna be a downgrade but if budget’s tight it might be worth it temporarily

    2. a 4G or 5G router? If it can take external antennas, especially MIMO, externally mounted high up in direct line of sight to cellular towers, then you’ll have a much stronger signal. It’s likely that would improve things, but you’ll still be subject to contention and other considerations.

That being said, I’m in a pretty rural and rather poor reception area but when I did it a few years ago with a 6dB omni mounted about 15ft up outdoors using an O2 partner SIM, my speeds doubled to around 20Mbps which was enough to WFH and videoconference. I might have to go back to that, but this time with an 11dB omni antenna mounted externally 25ft high using a £15/month unlimited Three partner SIM, after my 18 month 200Mbps Gigaclear FTTP contract (£29/month) comes to an end and they try their apparently normal 130% increase.

It’s either that or go to BT and get between 3 and 6Mbps for £25/month which, frankly, is right out.
