    1. >In a lengthy post on social media, the US president said “WE’RE SCREWED” if the supreme court rules against the tariffs. The decision is expected as soon as Wednesday. It is a crucial legal test of his controversial economic strategy and his power.

It’s a catastrophic systemic failure that the judiciary failed to immediately knock down patently illegal tariffs, and here we are, nearly one quarter into his term of office. Not to mention the reckless and destructive nature of the tariffs should have been grounds for impeachment+removal by the legislative branch. Those checks and balances aren’t working out.

Will it be a mess? Yes. Of his own making.

Any ruling that doesn’t fully repeal the tariffs, or leaves him an opening to reinstate them with the proper incantation, will be taken as license for even more extreme actions (whether actions undermining the fed, trade, ratfucking BLS numbers, etc).

    2. Sounds like he should have done his homework before initiating such a scheme. The guy failed at owning a casino and has filed for bankruptcy so many times that no one should leave him around money.

You mean the complete mess that you willingly and gleefully created, right, Trumpy?

I hope you are living in a constant state of terror and dread.

That seems to go against the history of tariffs causing economic decline, especially as Ben Stein said in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off the Hawley Smoot Tariff act extended the Great Depression. Or even look to current day data where every time Trump passes new tariffs the market declines, especially “Liberation Day”. And everytime he reverses his tariff, or a court looks like its gonna strike the tariffs down, the market gains. Literally, the worst day in the market in 2025 was the day after “Liberation Day” and the best day was the day he announced the 90 day pause on “Liberation day” tariffs.

    5. He know ls the Supreme Court will strike it down and thats why he had DoJ start a criminal investigation against Powell to use as a distraction

    6. The complete mess is going to be the billions of dollars in lawsuits that we’re all going to have to shoulder if we can ever get this buffoon out of office.

    7. lol, someone is panicking. All the tariff records are computerized, issuing refunds would be trivial. But, it would expose a budget shortfall and might increase interest rates.

    8. He cringes to think of reading his Truths for the tariff rate being set randomly at his whims would be hard cause what are chances accurate details on import tariffs were kept

Complete mess of your own making Mr. Tariff Otaku. This wouldn’t have been an issue if you had just got Congress on board to begin with to pass the tariffs that way. He seems hell bent on trying to set up streams of revenue outside of the appropriations process that only he wants to control, like with the Venezuelan oil. But that just is not how we do things here, Congress decides where money gets spent.

    10. That he created. He decided to pursue this way of doing tariffs. It’s like a kindergartner that started ripping the paper to cut out shapes and then realized he should have used scissors. The damage is done and you have to deal with the mess.

This was all avoidable and he had enough control to actually push this thru correctly. He has been king of the executive order, and it’s maddening.

    11. The ol’ suicide kill switch. If his administration actually followed court orders or used the correct channels for legislative choices we’d not be in a death tailspin, it’s almost like he’s learning in real time that the checks and balances also serve to prevent catastrophic reversals, but if you try to supersede them it’s like removing the safety regulators from a dangerous machine.

At this point, I actually think we need to endure the hardships of his administration because it’s the only way some will learn. If we truly want the America who doesn’t think it’s real or important until
It’s at their doorstep to wake up to the destructive tendencies of the GOP then they need to see the economic turmoil it brings.

Mr. Businessman’s lack of business acumen needs to be on full display.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to feel it bad. Middle class, two kids, townhouse, teacher salary, etc. but if my kids future means I gotta eat the dog shit in the intermediate then let’s get it over with. The last 10 years of this dick head and his sycophants has been a slow bleed. Let’s just deal with the full brunt of their cold hearted and short sighted greed once and for all.

    12. The mess IS THE POINT.

also Grift. Howard Nutlick (sorry, Lutnick, I messed that up again) and his nutless son will profit MASSIVELY when the tariffs are repealed. It was all planned from the beginning.

      Get your portfolio ready!

    13. He started the mess though. If he hadn’t grabbed power and tried to rule by executive orders, there won’t be a mess to begin with. If he had brains to think through his strategies, things would be less messy.

This has gone on to long. Tariffs are a tax and a president doesn’t have a right to 100% control a tax. I get in an extreme circumstance but even at that point congress can quickly pass something, taking care of business.

    15. Ahh I remember when I was a child, my parents telling me… “You should have thought of that before doing…” We all learned this lesson, why hasn’t Donald? Because he had shitty parents and is a deeply flawed individual. Never got the help to make him a contributing member of society, it’s just all here for him.

    16. Tough shit.  Doing a bunch of bullshit you’re not supposed to do doesn’t absolve you of having to do the cleanup.  Though I can understand his confusion because his entire life has been skipping out on the tab he’s run up…stiffing contractors, dodging prison time for felonies, being impeached more than any other president yet not getting barred from office, and I feel like I’m missing something.  Oh, right, fucking children on Epstein Island and still walking free, let alone as President.

    17. Reminder: you Trump not Biden created the mess and went to court arguing against an injunction to stop the tariffs by saying you would refund the money if the judge lets you continue and the tariffs are found unconstitutional. Though Trump will blame Biden somehow.

    18. This isn’t really an economics article but the key here is judicial. It’ll be interesting to see how Trump—appointed justices rule given many support FTAs.

    19. 1. Break law, create a problem.
      2. Get setback.
      3. See terrible consequences.
      4. Blame others and demand more power.
      5. Post a long tweet to satisfy the world count rule at this sub.
      6. Repeat.

If complete mess means a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy some recently devalued equities in retail and manufacturing and make a certain profit, then yes.

    21. Well he is right about one thing: it is already a complete mess. Caused by him, his administration, congress, and the supreme court themselves with their immunity ruling. That there are still people supporting him is insane and blows my mind.

    22. DolphinsBreath on

It’s almost as if a great power should have an assembly of representatives who can weigh these decisions and collectively decide whether the President should execute the plan. No one forcing the President, he could accept or reject the idea.
