(I posted this elsewhere in a travel forum, and someone suggested I give r/insurance a shot:)

I've asked this same question in a couple of other more niche corners of Reddit, but I'm putting it here in a last-ditch attempt to gain clarity, or otherwise admit defeat.

I'm a UK citizen living as a permanent resident in Taiwan. You're supposed to get travel insurance from your country of residence but bicycle insurance, specifically for damage to or theft of a bicycle, whether travelling abroad or otherwise, does not appear to exist in Taiwan (there is a form of public insurance related to municipal hire bikes, but that's for personal injury, not the bike). I could be wrong, but that's what I've heard, and I've found no evidence to suggest otherwise, at least, not yet.

World Nomads gets recommended a lot, but they told me they don't cover damage to, or theft of, a bicycle, during transit or otherwise. I tried Laka, in the UK, but their chatbot told me I had to be resident in the UK.

I see countless videos of people travelling around the world with their bikes, and quite a number of them must not be 'resident' in their home country. Maybe they're all travelling without insurance. If they are, maybe I need to invest in a good bike box, stick an airtag in it, and hope for the best.

(The bike is titanium, built by a local Taiwanese manufacturer, and cost me the equivalent of £1500. This isn't a lot compared to some bikes, but I'm not rich, and I'd like to travel extensively with my bike in the future, especially around SE Asia as well as back to the UK).

is this just going to be impossible?
