I was just informed that I'm being dropped from my State Farm home owners coverage because of frequency of claims. In 21 I had a water issue in the upstairs of my house, in 23 I had hail, and in 25 I had a water issue in the basement. I talked to the local office to see if they can appeal it, but I feel like I should be shopping around anyway.

Will these claims follow me to my next insurance company? Any other tips I should know about getting dropped and shopping around?

    Thanks

Yes, they will definitely follow you and three claims will make it difficult to get coverage in the standard market. Reach out to an independent agent and have them shop it around for you. If you don’t have one, you can search for one at http://www.trustedchoice.com.

    2. Oh they’re definitely going to follow you.

I would just call a local independent agent, see what they can find you. There really isn’t much of a secret formula.

That is a lot of claims in such a short period. One, maybe two is understandable. Doubt they will take you back, and they stay on your record 7 years.

Sounds like you are not careful about things.

    4. The average homeowner has 1 claim every 7 years so your claims history makes you high risk. Your claims will follow you and will make you ineligible for coverage with some companies. Definitely shop around but expect your rates to be significantly higher until those claims fall off.

3 claims in less than 5 years with 2 water claims is going to limit your options by quite a bit. So you need to call as many places as possible to get quotes, independent or otherwise. Also, different independent agencies can have access to different carriers, so you will probably have to call multiple ones.

These claims will follow you but there are many other companies you can work with. Using an independent agent will be the best option for you. They can quote you through multiple companies to make sure you are getting the best coverage and premiums on the market.

Look up the [http://www.trustedchoice.com/](http://www.trustedchoice.com/) in your area, this is a company that rates independent agencies and then selects only a handful of them to be recognized as top agencies in the USA. They have very high standards which helps them select only the best agencies so you know which agencies are going to help you and find you the right insurance.

    7. Most people shouldnt be putting in claims for water related unless it was major. And if it is major, you are high risk

Its a lesson people learn. House insurance is for catastrophe, not random stuff, what was your deductible?

If you have $2000 deductible and you put in for a $4000 repair. Thats going to get you flagged

Its like car. Lets say you have a $100 deductible. And you put in a claim for a cart hitting your door every year, level of minor damage

    8. See above comment. Both extremely major repairs from equipment malfunction. Not a leaky faucet.
