Hi everyone,
Apologies for how stupid this is about to be.
I'm in CA and backed into someone about a month and a half ago. Nobody was in the car at the time, and we agreed not to go through insurance at my request. The estimate for damages was ~$4.2K because of where the damage was. I was willing to pay out of pocket because I thought my insurance increase would be total way more (I was under 25 at the time, had only been driving/with this policy for ~2.5 years, and I had bought a relatively new car, so my monthly was around $300). However i'm starting to think that may have been really stupid of me, and that it might actually be cheaper to go through insurance.
I've never been in accident before. I know the guy I hit through friends, so I'm not worried about claims down the road. But still, I'm wondering if i should talk to my insurance agent about what a claim/rate increase would look like. Obviously I understand they can't tell me exactly how much my rate will go up without processing the claim, but do they have to report it if I ask about "hypotheticals"? I'm worried as well that if I report it now, I'll get dropped.
Sorry I know this is a pit of my own creation, but any advice would be very welcome.
Edit: I have AAA
Can I call my insurance agent without them reporting an accident?

Do not call them unless you are willing to have them open a claim. They cannot tell you hypothetically what you may pay later.
How much is your deductible?
