I was driving on a two way st and there was a woman approaching. I slowed down and moved as much as I could to the right side of the road, but she kept driving in the middle of the road and hit my mirror. My mirror got scuffed, and her mirror’s back cover broke off. As soon as I got out of the car she was claiming that it was my fault and she wanted to go through insurance. I told her there’s no reason to since it’s such a measly repair, and I’m also a 19Y/O male living 20min out of NYC, so the last thing I need is a premium increase. The mirror costed $50 on eBay, I ended up paying her $250. What should I do the next time I’m in this situation? I’m kind of annoyed that I paid so much considering the mirror was only $50

Mirrors hit each other while driving, how should I handle this next time?

    1. it would have been better to get her to sign a release showing u paid and dont owe, that said, if it was a modern mirror with built in lanechanging cameras, heated defrosters and turn signals it could have cost way over 50 bucks

250 to avoid a claim as a young driver in nyc is the best outcome tho

Now go and spend another 50 on a dashcam. that way you could prove she hit a stopped car, then you wouldnt need to worry

    2. She got $250 out of you. Next time call the police and get a report. Take pictures of the position of both cars.

Get a dash cam. Front and back. They’re not expensive. I could have used one a couple of months ago when some AH turned left from the right lane on a one way street and literally ran over my vehicle. He made a false police report, claimed it was at a completely different intersection, and despite my having actual video of where it occurred and all the metadata from photos and my location history, his insurance denied responsibility. Ffs.

      Dash cam.
