Nelnet says I owe $883 next month, but last letter said my IDR wasn’t processed and I was in forbearance — anyone else?

I’m trying to sanity-check something and would really appreciate input from people who’ve dealt with Nelnet / IDR issues.

In July 2025, I received a letter from Nelnet saying:

    • My income-driven repayment (IDR) application had not yet been processed due to court action.
    • My account was placed into forbearance while processing was paused.
    • I would receive another communication once they finished processing my IDR eligibility.

The letter did not say I was denied IDR, moved to standard repayment, or that a payment was due.

Fast-forward to now: my Nelnet account suddenly shows a standard repayment amount of $883 due in February. I have not received any new written notice ending the forbearance or formally placing me on standard repayment.

    My question for the community:

    • Has anyone else seen Nelnet show a large “standard” payment after an IDR processing pause or forbearance, without receiving a follow-up determination letter?
    • Is this typically a system placeholder when a forbearance or unprocessed IDR hits an internal end date?
    • Did Nelnet correct it after contact, or require action (admin forbearance, manual fix, etc.)?

I’m not ignoring it, I just want to understand whether this is a known servicing glitch vs. an actual obligation before I escalate.

Thanks in advance to anyone who’s been through something similar.
