Hey, so I just started my job at a school district and I have no idea which insurance plan to do. I’m 22 in Georgia and since I’m a mid year hire I would only really get around half of a full time salary which would be $23,997.30. I don’t know which one would better help with transition (I’m a trans woman) and gender affirming care related expenses I’m new to all this so I don’t know exactly what to look for in a plan to what all for it to cover, I’m also don’t know if the cheapest ones should be sought after first. I see I have options of anthem gold, silver, or bronze ($92 monthly and $2500 deductible), HMO…united healthcare HMO, HDHP ($81 and $3500 deductible)…and Kaiser HMO ($177 and $0 deductible)…so again I’m all new to this and a bit confused and have a time window before I make a decision. And I don’t know if a $0 is like suspicious for Kaiser? (I only put in the prices of the cheapest ones)
And also since I’m going to be really strapped for cash I’m unsure if I’ll even have enough money at all to even afford it until mid August where I’ll get more money and be fine since it’s really about making it to fall, so would paying out of pocket actually be cheaper? I don’t know at all, I’m already seeing the monthly rates and seeing how high the deductibles are so I don’t know if it’s even worth it.
I need help with some eye problems since they’re monitoring it for glaucoma, hormones, blood tests, doctor visits and all that so I’m unsure if I should even choose these plans or just go on my own. Thank you. I can send screen shots for more details if that could help!
Should I even go with health insurance if I will barely have any money?
