Landlord Sending Partial Deposit Back (TX)

Hey guys! I moved out of a house and the landlord has not sent the deposit in more than 30 days. When I messaged him today, he claimed he had no money and wanted to send it by the end of the month but then a subsequent message he sent me a message claiming fault for not sending it and asked me if we can reduce it as there was things he had so to the property. I said no and that I expect the payment to be sent by Jan 20 through cashiers check or Venmo (how I paid rent). He just sent me a randon Zelle for 800/2000 deposit randomly with no message or anything. I feel like he’s trying to set me up to screw me over? What do I do with this Zelle, since Zelle automatically goes straight into the bank account? Do I send it back telling him I need it in full? Do I just request the remaining amount by Jan 20?
