We have Safeco Homeowners Insurance. We have a frozen pipe and the water backed. The kitchen sink will not drain and I tried to snake it out and the upstairs toilet above the kitchen overflowed and dripped into the kitchen through light fixtures etc. Anyway I tore part of the ceiling out to find the clog there and then went under the kitchen sink to look at the pipes. The kitchen sink cabinet and the kitchen window area sticks out from the house like a bay window. The drain pipe for the sink is both inside the exterior wall and in the joist underneath the cabinet as part of the overhang. It seems to me that this is not up to code. I looked at our policy and it was hard to tell from the lawyerese if it was covered. To me this will happen again if the pipe is exposed to the cold outside wall. Typically pipes are in inside walls. Any comments?
Will Homeowners Insurance pay for bringing house up to code?
