My husband and I have decided to sell our first home and buy a second in a new construction neighborhood. We are having a hard time deciding between two lots that are available. Both properties would have the same floor plan so there is no difference in the home itself. One lot is slightly larger and in a slightly better location, but would cost anywhere from $11,000-$16,000 more for the added space depending on what they decide the “premium” cost is. The second lot is slightly smaller (11ft narrower) and in a slightly less ideal location (it’s 3 lots down from the first but closer to a park and has more traffic potential) BUT with that cost savings we could afford to have more upgraded finishes. We are getting older (I’m 47 and my husband is 53) so we think about things like future yard care needs and property taxes needing to be paid at retirement but also like the idea of more room between us and the neighbors etc. What would you do?!

    Which lot would you choose?

    1. I would not settle for.less than a 1 acre lot. I already feel a little cramped on my 1.5 acre lot, but the area behind me is wooded and non buildable, so it feels more like 20 acres.
