I made my last payment yesterday to Nelnet (federal) and SoFi (private) and both pages have the status of paid in full.

I’m not sure how to feel and in all honesty when I thought about this day, I imagined I’d have a party or an instagram post or just text my friends and family. But now that the day is here, I feel more ashamed and embarrassed. It’s not the feeling I was hoping for, but I wanted to see how other people have felt.

At the end of 4 years of college, I borrowed a little over $100k. I aggressively attacked my loans and was able to pay them off in 7.5 years at a grand total of $138k.

I think this why I’m embarrassed. I chose to go to school and took out this large sum of money. I’m not proud to admit that I put myself in this situation, but I guess I’m a bit relieved that it’s no longer a debt I have.

Any words of support or stories would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Not sure how old you are, but I remember being told in elementary/middle school that I wouldn’t get a job at McDonald’s without a college degree. Lots of folks were sold into a predatory system on the lie of necessity. Even $38k in interest over 7.5 years is insanity.

All that to say, congrats on paying them off!
