I totaled my car today in a 5 car accident and when the police asked for my insurance I panicked and realized the Geico I signed up for never went through. I had progressive ending on 1/18 and I signed up for Geico to take over on 1/17 and I guess it didn’t save?

I even had Geico call me 3 times about my quote and on the last call, I said I already signed up for your auto insurance and they said okay and hung up.

Should that agent have informed me my policy didn’t go through? Do I have any options here? I literally have always paid for 6 months of insurance at a time and it’s actually unbelievable that I totaled my car in the 2 weeks I didn’t even realize I didn’t have it.

Man, I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. That’s a nightmare situation. If the Geico policy never actually activated, the agent usually isn’t required to warn you unless the purchase was fully completed on their end. It sucks, but it happens more often than people realize. Still, call Geico ASAP and ask if there was any technical issue or partial application—they *might* find something. But with a 5‑car accident and no active policy, it’s really important to speak with a lawyer. You didn’t do this on purpose, and you deserve help figuring out the next steps.

    2. That’s rough. Call GEICO immediately and ask for a supervisor to review the quote history and call logs. If there’s any evidence you attempted to bind coverage, it could matter. Also, talk to a lawyer sooner rather than later.

    3. Is the payment on your bank statement? There are A LOT of issues with their systems. It’s not common for a policy to go into what they call a migration failure and just….disappear. If your payment was processed, though, and you can prove that, then you need to escalate this up and have the systems team look into it.
