If you have some pots or bowls laying around (or want to buy any kind for cheap), you can make a humidifier by setting your pots next to each other and placing a paper towel between them, one end dipped in each pot. The paper towel draws up water and evaporates it much quicker than just leaving pots of water out.
I used to wake up with a bloody nose everyday because it was so dry and now I don't even notice it.
It's really easy to refill, just get a cup and pour a decent amount of water into each pot in the morning and you can forget about it for the rest of the day. You might want to replace your paper towels occasionally in case of mold, but that hasn't been an issue and I've used the same paper towels for 3 weeks.
Add as many bowls and paper towels as you want, assuming you can spare the floor space.

I just realized this is only enough to humidify a room, in theory it scales up indefinitely if you have the space for it so you could use a lot more pots and paper towels to humidify your house.
Interesting. What are those stink diffusers made of? Maybe a vase of those in some of the busiest or driest areas?
As someone living in Ireland – you mother fuckers need more humidity?
Have to be careful In winter, condensation can collect on cold walls and cause black mold.

This seems like a terrible idea and worthless hack. Who wants a bunch of pots with water with paper towels spilling out of them. The water can stagnate, the paper towels are wasted, and where do you put this so that it doesn’t damage furniture.
And it won’t put out much humidity. A bit of an investment, but the Venta humidifier just kicks ass. No filters, simple design, easy to clean, and gets the job done.
I run a humidifier and a dehumidifier and let ’em fight it out.
I remember my friends Mom would put pots of water next to the heating vents.
I bet the fire dept would love this
You forgot the fan!
I used to tape coat hangers together vertically and have the paper towels stick up out of the bowls, and have towels blow across them. Eventually, the minerals in the water make the towels crusty and water won’t go up very far after that, so you have to change out the towels and the water. It all does work though!
