Been following frugal living for sometime now. However I don’t shy away from buying things that adds meaningful additions to the lifestyle. Have been using an IPhone 12 for the past 4.5 and planning to hold them atleast for the next 2 years. I’ve now been eyeing to buy an Iwatch however a little skeptical on its usage and also thinking if it’s a buy it for life thing. Has anyone purchased one and has it been a worthy investment?

I like mine and have had it for years. couldnt tell you the last time i wore a traditional watch.

Perhaps seach YT for “pros and cons of iWatch” to get a better feeling on if it is right for you.

    2. Almost no apple product is BIFL since there is such a high degree of planned obsolescence. If you wear a watch it is a fine purchase, but if you don’t already wear a watch daily or need a heart rate monitor, I don’t see much of a point. The screen is super tiny so my older relatives who loved their watches last year now can’t read them well. I think you would be better served upgrading your phone to an iphone 17 or up

I think it depends on what you would use it for. I bought an Apple Watch (that’s what I believe you’re referring to?) in 2020 and it’s still going strong. I loved it for working out and training, but now that I’m disabled it’s awesome for using when I’m not near my phone to answer calls. Plus I can see who’s texting me and craft short responses if needed while I’m in meetings or otherwise occupied. I can check the weather at a glance, see what’s playing on my music app, and of course, check the time. That being said, will I purchase another one when/if this one gives out? Probably not, because it wouldn’t be worth the expense for me.

If it’s something you genuinely want and will use daily for its multiple intended purposes and not just as an accessory to see your texts? Sure, go ahead.

Lmao, get it if you find joy in it, but don’t pretend like it’s a savvy decision in any way

    7. I think it’d be hard to justify a smartwatch as a frugal purchase. What does it really do that you can’t already do with your phone?

Its just a convenience device, people want to feel special and have “that thing” that everybody else has.

I see zero value in them, PT Barnum was right “Theres a sucker born every minute.”

    8. If you’re truly frugal an apple watch is a luxury not a need.

You can track your steps and heart rate with a 30 bucks fitness band. But if you love the convenience and it motivates you to move more, then it’s worth it for you. Don’t buy it because it’s smart buy it because it actually adds value to your life

I have the wristwatch I got 25 years ago for my 21st birthday. I buy a new Samsung every five to seven years when the one I have is completely unusable.

I don’t think any iphone related product is BIFL and I think an expensive smart watch is far from a frugal purchase

    10. I’m on my second Apple Watch. The first one was a series 1 and lasted 5-6 years. Eventually the front face popped off in extreme cold. The watch was still working, but I had to tape it back together. It was about the same price to buy a new SE model as to fix the old one. I’ve had this one for almost 4 years. I love it – the ability to see if the phone call or text is important, the fall detection, tracking my sleep, controlling my podcasts. When this one dies eventually, I will replace it.

    11. It’s not a frugal expenditure imo. Not even close to being a need vs want by any stretch of the imagination. Kind of surprised to even see this posted here.

    12. I own an Apple watch. I’ve had it for the last 3 years or so.

I am an older male and I live alone. I got my Apple watch for safety reasons. My plan recently added cell service for it at no cost so I’ve added it. Otherwise, I would’ve just had BT connection, which is more than enough for me.

Secret to my frugality is learning to spend a little bit so I don’t feel deprived and go on a shopping spree. I’d wait for a sale and pick it up. (Which I did)
