I live with three other guys, and our water bill was a joke. Between the constant flushing and the occasional ""running toilet"" that nobody bothered to fix, we were wasting a fortune.

Last month we all chipped in for a dual-flush toilet. It’s got that dual-button thing on top for ""liquid vs solid,"" which sounds silly, but it’s actually making a dent in the bill. We’re saving enough now that it basically covers our Friday pizza night.

For those in shared houses, what are some other ""house upgrades"" that actually pay for themselves?

    1. A lot of water departments will gove rebates on lower flush toilets, basically offsetting the cost of the toilet itself. That leaves the installation cost but it’s still a good deal.

Depending on your level of gross tolerance, you could also all pee then do one flush. Could work if you’re all drinking and then each person goes one after the other.

Also can put a basin in the handwash sink and pour that water into a bucket and use that to flush.

Same idea, put a bucket in shower to catch warm up water and water that misses then use to flush.
