Without installing a bunch of apps or rewards. The prices vary so much. Also, do they price match? Sometimes I will book a month in advance. Then when I check-in. I see the same room listed for less. Google gives 15 different prices. Every time I book a room I kind of feel like im getting scammed. I know the rewards can be significant. I might only stay in a hotel one or two times a year. What's the best way to book my room?

How can you save money at hotels? Without apps or rewards.

Prices can vary. Even within the same hotel chain, there can be different brands (some nicer than others). And even the, location matters.

But prices can go up or down within the property depending on whether the hotel is expecting to sell that room.

call and say “your hotel on a site is xxx.xx, i’d rather them not take fees so can you match it?”

I say it’s a lot cheaper online even if it isn’t, they usually go for it

Book direct with the hotel. Always. On the phone or website, either way. And yes, many chains will price match their own prices if it is truly the same price. Google listings are often sponsored or deceptive. Most of the OTA’s are owned by one company, and when you book through one, the hotels hands are tied in terms of doing much with your reservation, including matching prices.

It’s also worth noting that some places will lower prices last minute if they have vacancies, which could explain seeing discrepancies when you check in. Best thing in that scenario is to ask if they’ll match the price.
