New to bar soap, feel like I’m tearing through it. Tips?

New to bar soap. I shower about 5-6 days a week. Heres my usual routine

\-Store the bar on a soap rack on the oppoosite end of the shower so it doesn’t get wet

\-When showering, I put the bar in an exfoliating bag and scrub down. I put the bar right back on the soap rack when im done.

    I feel like I go through about a bar a week / week+half.

New to bar soap, feel like I am tearing through them. Any tips for keeping them lasting longer?

    1. Maybe the exfoliating bag is wearing it down? I’ve been on the same bar of Irish Spring for maybe two and a half, three weeks, and it’s got plenty to go

    2. idk if it’s shrinkflation or what (more solulable ingredients mix with water faster?) but bars of soap last a fraction of how long they used to.

    3. Presumably you have a couple bars in the cabinet, right now? Take them out of the package – leave them on a shelf or use them as drawer sachets or something. Time pir of the plastic packaging will dry them out a bit. See if you notice them lasting longer. If you do, then you can drag out that time out of the package, but before putting them in the shower. Don’t do it for years and years, but certainly 6+ months is fine.

I tried using an exfoliating bag and I ran through my bar soap way faster. Ditched it for a wash cloth and now my soap is lasting longer.

    5. Try switching to a harder soap, French milled last much longer. I would say your exfoliation bag is contributing to the quick reduction in bar size, I use a mild exfoliation bar soap daily and it can last for months but I just use it alone.

    6. Better to use a wash cloth. Having water running through it when in use wears it down faster. Wet washcloth (and yourself), put soap in it and create lather. Put bar away and turn off water. Scrub and lather self. Rinse.

    7. I think taking the bar out of its wrapper and letting it sit for a week or more makes it last longer once you start using it.

My bar soap lasts me probably 2-3 months, depending on the soap. It’s on a pretty open rack in the shower in the corner, gets splashed but not rained on. I use it with an exfoliating glove (rub on glove for suds, repeat as necessary).

I do buy pretty high quality soap. Doesn’t get slimy or squishy, so maybe that’s part of it. Still working out cheaper than body wash (plus, obviously much less plastic).

Buy your favorite soap when it’s on sale and buy a bunch.

Take all of the the soap out of the packaging and leave it in a cool dry area like a pantry for a month or so to dry out and harden.

Although the scent may be a little less intense, the harder bar will wear away slower so it lasts longer. I was surprised at the difference.

No, leave it in the bag. Let it dry hanging up.

    11. I buy the harder French milled soaps at TJ Maxx on the clearance shelves. They generally always have really good quality bar soap for cheap. Last spring I got a box of 12 large bars of goat milk soap for $9. I shower daily and a bar lasts me 4-5 weeks. The commercial bar soaps are small and way less dense.

Look for big bricks of hard soap. They last a long long time.  Home good stores often have over stocks at a discount. If not, look for brands like Sasquatch.

ETA I think Sasquatch is not the brand with the huge soap bars, like the 10 oz bars. The big bars, when you can find them are harder than the little bars and last forever.

    13. What kind of soap are you using? Bars of Dove or Lever last at least a month with both my husband and I showering daily.

    14. Bar may need to dry out between showers. Mine sit on a soap tray away from drips and dry out between use.

i get mine at dollar tree , it’s real good and all natural , it’s called african black soap, at 1.25 per bar, i use it like you should, plentifully
