Im just curious how Kharg Island works. Is it mainly a storage site for crude oil. What I think I understand is there is a massive underwater pipe line system that delivers crude oil to the Kharg Island storage tanks from the offshore drilling wells.

No refining or drilling takes place and countries simply load up their tankers at Kharg Island and take it back home to be refined. Is that about the gist of it ?

    Thanks

Just a question on how Kharg Island works.

Seems like the bombing of the island is an escalation point.

Don’t bomb, Iran maintains its own exports and possibly nuclear fuel reserves.

Do bomb, Iran is influenced to further attack oil infrastructure elsewhere and the global oil supply if further hampered.

huge pumps, heaters, screens, valves, pipes, and filters. It took a 80MW power plant to run it. The USA destroyed a lot of it including the power plant.

    3. It acts as a funnel for Iran’s onshore oil fields (like Ahvaz and Gachsaran), which send their crude through a series of underwater pipelines to the island’s massive storage tank farms. From there, it’s pumped onto tankers. Since Irans main coastline is too steep, Kharg is the solution. These pipeline systems are huge, and so far hasn’t been damaged in this specific conflict. If the answer truly is regime change, it’s better to keep that infrastructure in place so that there can be short term economic benefit, unlike Venezuela that would require major investment to scale.
