Hey everyone. So about a month ago, we had our sewer line replaced. During this process, due to the location of our sewer line(runs close to our property line) our neighbors new landscaping, sod, etc was damaged. Our neighbors have sent us a demand letter to have the damaged areas fixed. We are sending it to our contractor as we feel we aren’t liable for this and I just want everyone opinion on that.
We did not give them permission to enter their yard
We did not give them permission to damage their property
We were not there once they started digging and had caused the damage.
Our contracts say nothing about our neighbors.
Are we in the right thinking that we aren’t liable for this? Contractor was obviously licensed and insured. Their insurance should be the one fixing this right?

Question… what will happen and what will you do when the contractor does not address?

Perhaps their insurance should address but there is a good chance the contractor will never report it to them. If you want to protect yourself, I’d recommend you report it to your insurance carrier.
