# 8 years in the crypto trenches: A retrospective.

I saw a banner today that BitMart is hitting their 8-year mark, and it triggered a wave of nostalgia that made me realize I’ve been in this game for almost the exact same amount of time.

What does 8 years in crypto do to a person? Well, my hair is definitely grayer, and my stress tolerance is absolutely destroyed. I started in early 2018, fresh-faced and naive. I panic-sold the absolute bottom of the bear market. I FOMO bought the literal top of the 2021 bull run. I chased yields that were mathematically impossible and paid the price.

But I survived. My trading strategy evolved from "spray and pray on 1000x altcoins" to steady, calculated compounding. I learned to read macroeconomic trends instead of Twitter shills. I learned that security and patience are the only real alpha.

Seeing platforms that launched around the same time I started trading still standing strong today is actually really validating. It proves this isn't just a casino; it's a maturing financial ecosystem. Happy anniversary to the survivors out there.
