it’s definitely more structured now with mica, but that also means regulators expect you to come in fully prepared, not figure things out along the way. timelines i’ve seen people talk about are usually several months to over a year depending on the country and how complete your application is, delays often come from compliance gaps or back and forth with regulators. one thing i’d verify early is banking, a lot of setups stall there even if the license side is moving, especially around aml policies and source of funds checks. the hardest part for most isn’t just paperwork, it’s building a compliant operation that actually holds up under scrutiny, things like custody flow, transaction monitoring, and reporting. also worth noting costs go beyond the license itself, ongoing compliance, audits, and local requirements add up fast. are you planning to run custody yourself or operate more as a broker or intermediary?
