All 4 car wheels of my Honda civic was stolen. I called Geico to file a claim and I got started on it but i couldnt finish the claim because the theft department isn’t open till Monday. My dad told me to pay out of pocket now to pay his mechanic friend to get the wheels and come and install it, then just submit the receipt later to get reimbursed. I’m worried that GEICO won’t pay me back in full if I do use my own money. So I told him that I’ll just wait till Monday to call the insurance because I don’t want to risk paying for everything and not getting paid back the full amount. I prefer to get it towed because there might be damage on the bottom because it’s sitting on cinder blocks so I want someone to inspect that. But my dad is saying the the insurance will only pay for a regular tow and that I’ll still need to pay out of pocket for wheels to put on the car before towing, so might as well pay out of pocket now for the wheels and have someone install it today. Is this true? This can’t be the first time someone’s wheels got stolen, there should be tow companies that have temporary wheels for situations like this right? Another idea he proposed was to get old wheels now and install it and then submit a claim for my original expensive wheels. They were black rim wheels with the Honda label on it. But I’m also worried that if an agent is sent out to look at my car, they’ll see my car already has some old wheels on them and that they’ll only reimburse me for the cost of those old wheels. What would be the way of getting my money back? I want my insurance to pay for my original expensive wheels but I think I just want cheaper wheels from now on because this is the second time they got stolen. It was only 2 wheels the first time but I didnt have comprehensive then and paid about 3k to replace them. Is it better to buy old wheels now and get them installed and bill the insurance for my original wheels? Or is it better to just have the insurance pay the dealership and tow company directly for my original wheels and then later I can swap them out for cheaper ones and sell the expensive ones.
