I understand that keeping coins on an exchange is bad but what about online wallets? Can these be a good option?
What's everyone's opinions about using online wallets like Electrum or Exodus? Are they safe?

Exodus is very safe. I have around 18K in BTC sitting there and have been using it for many years.
Both are good! You seems to be a new person to it so I would advice you to use exodus and you can text me if you need any assistance in doing that!
