The question was about Iranian/Russia sanctions. Ultimately Bessent’s answer highlights the ineffective and largely performative nature of sanctions.
The world price per barrel increases, as a result of supply strain, Iran is allowing Chinese tankers through the Strait, and China will pay the world price per barrel, and Iran will collect on that price.
If the objective is to keep Iran from getting $$$ from their oil sales to China, which is seemingly unstoppable without waging war against China, then artificially keeping prices low by politically manipulating supply chains is the right way to go.
To put it another way, Donald Trump has served the world a steaming shit sandwich, and insists that cutting off the crust will make it more palatable.
