My son is trying to decide between attending Villanova vs. University of Maryland vs. Rensselaer Polytech in the Fall. He plans to study Economics and Applied Mathematics. He does not have a locked in career path. With scholarships and grants, Villanova and RPI are approximately the same and approximately $25K cheaper than UMD.

Is an Economics degree more valuable from a mid sized private university vs. larger public university vs. technical university?

    1. Doesn’t really matter. More important is what works better for your son. A large university can have more resources for internships and clubs, but is also less hands on and can have larger classes. Broad rankings for an UG degree are less important than whether the school is a fit as a whole with your son. The most valuable one will be whichever school he can do well at academically. And location. UMD will have a lot more connection to DC and that job market.
