Roadside Assist – Cooling Off Period

Signed up for Roadside Assistance (eg RACV Total Care), had it in the back pocket for a particular trip, but then cancelled within the 21-day cooling off period and received a full refund?

Say you’re planning a long (1,500km) but relatively short (1 week) trip. You don’t currently have a roadside assistance package because you’re always close to a mechanic, but for this particular trip you’d like to have it just in case – should you take out the policy with the intention of canceling it after the trip? You’ve got it just in case you need it, but you’ll get your money back and won’t use the 12-month subscription.
