(Just turned 18, no previous credit card history.) I am not yet enrolled in a college but will I be able to apply for Discover’s student card? I see many people say that they do not ask for proof but it’s all from 2+ years ago so is it still this way? If I’m denied a credit card, will that hurt me even though I have no credit score? My other option is the Discover secured card which I have to pay a deposit for, so I see a lot of people advise against it. I don’t think I have good chances of being accepted by other options. I’ve been told by several people to go with Discover and I plan to open a HYSA with them at some point so it’d be nice to have a credit card with them too. If anyone has advice or criticism it’d be greatly appreciated.

You’re right in that student age range so Discover most likely won’t check for shit. In the rare occasion they do ask for proof, just stall until you can upload some letter of acceptance.

    2. When I applied for the discover student they made me show them proof that i was a student. I wasn’t one at the time as it was the summer but I don’t think they are to strict on it because i just showed them a screenshot of an email saying I got accepted into college (which I did). Which could litterly be faked by anyone, they didn’t make me verify with a student id or anything just the screenshot of the email worked for me.
