I just got a quote for homeowners insurance for a single family residence in 17055 that I am purchasing.
$1900+ per year!
Why? Because there was a wind damage claim in 2020 resulting in the roof being replaced and a broken water pipe claim last year resulting in the kitchen being redone.
Nothing to do with me… But I get dinged because insurance had to pay out for a covered risk in the past?
Should I shop around or am I going to keep running into this issue no matter what?
Insane quote for new homeowners coverage due to previous claims

Call an independent insurance agency around the area and have them shop for you.
$1900 annually for homeowners? Honestly it doesn’t sound too bad.
You should always shop around. And think about the plumbing in the house…is the rest of it solid?
$1900 really isn’t crazy but definitely shop around. If those claims were filed by the previous owner some carriers will exclude them.
Shop it around. A lot of times I can get those claims removed if they’re from the prior owner. It’s completely carrier dependent though.
