My boyfriend just began his new blue collar job working outside from 7am – 3pm (sometimes until 5-7pm) depending on the job. When he is out during the workday, there is no office setting with a fridge/microwave and sometimes he's too busy to stop and go somewhere to buy a lunch.
He is slightly a picky eater, but I want to be supportive and make lunch for him to bring that is filling (he has a fast metabolism and eats a lot!)
So far he has brought spaghetti leftovers (he doesn't mind eating those cold), he enjoy bologna and cheese sandwiches (no condiments, he doesn't like sauces) and i usually pair this with a side of pretzels, chips, a cookie or something to snack with.
I've been having fun packing his lunch with cute notes, a brownier or treat here and there, etc… I just bottom line wanna make sure it's filling enough to hold him over until dinner.
What are you blue collar lunch suggestions that don't need to be microwaved/refrigerated? What are nice surprises you like in your lunch?

Just gonna say youree an awesome wife, but besiides that I got nothing except putttingg in some high calorie snacks can save money for the amount of calories
Like nuts, butter, cheese. But itss moostly from the perspectove of an ultralight camper
Would he like pasta salad type meals? Think like cold pasta mixed with specific things like roasted peppers, pickles, various cheeses (mozzarella, cheddar, etc), various cooked meats (diced chicken or turkey, any type of cold cuts), and mixed with any vinaigrette you feel like using. It’s an easy thing to make and really customizable too depending on what you prefer.
I used to work outside for years as a land surveyor (I’m solely office now), but I did like something like this instead of sandwiches 24/7. Also, it is nice to have a little treat, like I’d put a small snack in there with it, or like a cookie or something. Doesn’t have to be much.
maybe try cold pasta salad with chicken or tuna and some fruit for a snack, also a small treat or note for fun..
Portable heating lunchbox like luncheaze. I work as a mail carrier and use it every day
What about burritos of some sort? Bean and cheese on their own or with some meat.
Beef jerky, as it gets warm peanuts, trail mix, sunflower/pumpkin seeds (in shell).
Ritz peanut butter crackers or something like that also can survive without refrigeration & don’t take much room.
I freeze a water bottle at night and put a frozen bottle in my lunch. If hot, I have suoer cold water to drink.
This also allows other fridge stuff, like cheese sticks, and it keeps my other drinks cold.
I bring a turkey wrap everyday. with stuff in it. chips, bag of celery.
The bottle is the big thing tho. Keeps it cold till lunch.
Hand pies from various cultures are all good – empanadas, Jamaican patties, pasties, tamales
My partner who’s a blue collar worker found that using boiling water to preheat a thermos then putting hot foods in the thermos left the food reasonably hot at lunch time
