So, MLW is smart, but not a finance nerd. She has one primary card, from Chase, that she uses for most transactions. It's her main card, longest account and highest limit, so doesn't want to just cancel.
Our problem is that after having it for a long time, travelling quite a bit, she's used this card for many different apps, billing services, sharing economy, etc. Too many companies have the number.
She's cancelled all the recurring bills but every so often she gets random "pre-authorization" charges from these companies. A couple of legit bogus charges were easy to reverse, but we'd rather just take care of it on our side with a clean slate.
If she gets a new credit card number from Chase, what are the odds the rep on the phone will understand the question and be able to remove auto-update (is it "tokens?") from the cards?
Any tips, tricks, suggestions to make this painless?
At first I thought just changing the account number would be easy, but I've learned about the "auto-update" feature and so wonder if that wouldn't be enough, and I hear mixed results that phone reps will even know what we're asking enough to be of help.
TIA!
Is a replacement card# with NON-AUTO-UPDATE / RESET TOKENS straightforward?

Just call and talk to a rep. If the rep sounds confused, ask for a different one/call back.
