Hi All,

I am a 19 y/o college student, and I'd like advice on which credit card I should get next. I currently have a discover student card, but recently, I've found it hard to stay under the 10% recommended spending limit out of the $500 available credit (don't worry, I always pay off in full before every statement). I am nearing 6 months of having this card, so I would like to move forward asap so I can have more wiggle room with the available credit, and possibly more benefits.

    Any tips are appreciated! <3

    1. you can spend as much as you want, the % utilization is only calculated once your statement is posted

that being said we’d need more details on your spend/lifestyle to recommend a card

    2. I sometimes run my cards up close to the limit. I just pay them almost all the way down by the statement closing date. It reports about 2% and autopay takes care of the rest on the due date.

      Now’s probably a good time to get a 2% catch-all.

Fidelity Rewards, Wells Fargo Active Cash, and Citi Double Cash are solid choices.

Chase freedom cards are good for your spend levels and have good cash welcome offers – often $150-$200 cash back after $500 spend after 3 months of card opening
