If Iran is charging up to $2M for “safe passage,” is this a temporary wartime tactic or the start of a new model for controlling maritime trade?

Right now it looks like a **wartime tactic**, not a stable long-term model.
The fees are being applied inconsistently and tied to control during the conflict, not a formal system yet.
That said, some Iranian officials are already talking about turning it into a more permanent “regime” after the war, which is what’s really getting attention.
The problem is this would clash hard with international maritime norms (free transit), so it’s likely to face pushback from basically everyone.
for now:
– tactical leverage in a crisis.
– Long-term? Only possible if the balance of power actually shifts.
