Title. Normally I'd eat the cost of things like this, but this one feels different…
Auto-renewal hit for $50 yesterday. I emailed the company immediately, and politely asked if I could get a refund as I have no plans to use the renewal. I even offered to pay the difference in credit card fees, if needed.
I was denied and offered vouchers instead.
The renewal was yearly, and there was zero communication/notice prior. I mean truly zero communication – not even an add or newsletter for over a year.
Edit: I actually double checked this and its even weirder… I did get emails, *but in 2023 when I had a free membership.* During the time of free membership I received ads, newsletters, etc… But I have received NO communication since I bought the 12 months over a year ago…
Furthermore, I thought I was buying 12 solitary months as a package, not an annual. Seems as if auto-renewal is turned on automatically, and to change it requires starting an email chain with a third party to start the process of changing these settings (which most other companies have readily accessible on their website.)
Things obviously feel predatory, sure, but do I have grounds? I understand that $50 is not a ton of money, but enough to hurt us rn.
Here is another "grounds for chargeback?" post.

I’d try a followup email stating the credits aren’t good enough for the reasons you just listed (keep it succinct) and give them a deadline refund your card.
If that doesn’t work, go head and try a chargeback but YMMV.
