Guitar center has display piano and books. I get an hour lunch and can take more time then need. I get 45 mins of practice a day.

For the past week I have been going to Guitar Center, a music store that sells pianos. They have pianos and books on display you can use. I have been using the Adult Piano Adventures book and finished chapter 1 today.

The great thing is the employees are very helpful and some of them actually play music so they will give you advice.

    1. Are you hot or something? I feel like if I tried this I’d get the cops called on me lol

    2. “Here comes that guy that comes in every day and plays the piano for 45 minutes, then leaves without buying anything, again.”

Yeah, I like to go to places that sell gym equipment. I just do my workout there rather than pay for a gym membership.

    4. I think this is beyond frugal and more extreme cheapskate but that’s just me

As someone who learned piano from a piano teacher when I wanted to learn to play in my 20s, and then did a lot of self-teaching after that too – you need professional instruction to learn to play properly, not “advice” from someone who works at guitar center. And a book is only going to get you so far. Also it’s unhinged to go in every day and annoy every customer and worker there with your beginner playing. People go in to actually buy instruments and they want to try them out first, and that’s incredibly hard with someone banging on a piano in the background.

I found a piano teacher willing to exchange services. He gave me lessons and I did some freelance work for him. Getting professional help early on will pay off later, and once you’re proficient you can stop lessons and focus on progressing by yourself.
