Hoping someone here can help or provide potential recourse.

I made an online purchase. I sent one item back for a refund. That same month I ended up misplacing my card, so it was closed and a new one reissued.

The retailer has confirmation of the refund going back to the old card (they also received the returned item). My bank rejected the refund due to the card being closed. The retailer is claiming they never received the rejected money. The bank states it’s now past their policy for filing a claim. Both the retailer and bank claim they do not have the funds.

It’s a small amount (under $40). I understand it’s my fault due to the misplaced card, but not sure if I should chuck it up as a loss and a lesson learned.

Can’t get a refund for item I purchased then returned
