Yesterday, Reddit managed to do the impossible: alienate its core user base and spook investors in one single announcement. If you've been watching the $RDDT ticker, you know the market is reacting to the chaos.

A wave of panic hit the platform following claims that Reddit’s CEO is forcing human verification through biometrics or government IDs. For a platform where anonymity is the product, this was perceived as a death sentence. The sentiment is clear: users are already threatening to delete their accounts or stop contributing entirely.

Looking at the actual official updates, Reddit is trying to walk a very thin line. Here is what they actually announced:

Targeted, not Sitewide: They claim human verification will only apply to "automated or suspicious" accounts (bots).

Privacy Stance: Official statements say, "We don't need or want your identity." They are exploring decentralized and private ways to comply with global age-verification regulations.

The Goal: Labeling "good bots," removing 100k+ nefarious accounts daily, and keeping the platform for humans.

Also Reddit: lol they’re trying to get rid of the bots who would invest in this shitty platform without them.

Killing bots helps long term, but I get why investors panic short term when engagement numbers might dip. The real foot shot is when legit users get caught in the filters and just stop posting.
