I think I’m going to have to quit my job. I was already given a warning 2 weeks ago so I may be fired today but if not I think I’ll have to quit anyway.
This is the worst most stressful job I’ve ever had. I don’t have any money and am in debt but I’m seriously considering not being here if you can’t my drift (I don’t think I can say that on this subreddit. Everyday is miserable I’m having panic attacks almost throwing up and crying after work everyday I can’t handle this.
I‘m in 2,000 in debt right now on my credit card I only have to pay 25 dollars off minimum for a year so that’s good I have like 1,000 in actual cash. quick income I can get fast is working store demos I can do that like 15 hours a week for around 25-30 dollars an hour and I know I could get a demo at least within the next week. I have 2 interviews lined up for other jobs next week. What else can I do that’s smart about money while I’m unemploye?
How can I manage while unemployed?

Are you in the US? Usually you want to wait to be let go so you can try filing for unemployment insurance.
Quitting would be the absolute worst decision, get fired instead so you get unemployment.
Let them fire you. Don’t quit.
$2000 in credit card debt is not ideal, but it’s not completely awful.
Hang with your current job, and keep looking for a better one in your free time. Get some side hussles to get some extra income.
The only way out of a growing credit card debt mess is reducing spending/increasing income and aggressively paying down the card.
Sounds like you are suffering from clinical depression, and your decision to quit could actually end up making your life harder (damn if you do, damn if you don’t).
Do you have family you can rely on? Ideally you would get medical care for that (harder if you lose medical coverage) or at the very least support so you can take a much needed break before you get back on track.
$2,000 in debt is nothing. Im in $4500 in debt but ill pay it off soon. Keep your head up and remember, there will always be a better opportunity at some point. Stay positive and keep looking for and apply to new roles.
Hey, no job is worth your life, please reach out to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) before making any decisions. On the financial side, if you do get fired rather than quitting you’ll likely qualify for unemployment benefits which can buy you some breathing room while you figure out next steps. The $2k debt is honestly manageable compared to what you’re dealing with emotionally right now, so focus on getting stable first and the money stuff second.
You can’t quit. You don’t have any money and you won’t get unemployment. Keep doing your job, and if they fire you they fire you.
If you have any PTO or medical leave, can you seek to use it to manage your stress? Depending on your location, a medical condition freezes your position for treatment. I wish you well
First thing first! No job is worth your mental health. However if you get fired you can apply for unemployment benefits.
2nd! A job can not fire you for seeking mental health treatment. If you are in the US I know you can walk into an ER and share what you cant share here and get help!(pack a bag as well). Debt is the least of your concerns right now. I went into the hospital 5 years ago and again 4 years ago and I can say my life has changed for the better and im almost debt free besides a car and student loans and im back in school.
Prior to that I was 20k in CC debt and 20K in loans in addition to my car and student loans.
If you are in the US and are worried about the cost of the hospital stay and ER visit. I can assure you that again is the least of your concerns the hospital SW can help you navigate that as well. They have programs. Please seek help.
If in the US and unable to cope with the job see if you are eligible for FMLA. With a therapist or doctor signing off you can step away from your job for up to 12 weeks & get some help. All while keeping your insurance and preserving the option to come back just in case you aren’t able to land a replacement job while out.
Ideally if you did come back you could ask for reasonable accommodations. Worst case your employer decides to fire you and as others have noted you would get unemployment as the very least. If you ask for accommodations and your employer retaliates or otherwise breaks labor laws then you could get a settlement on top of that.
I’m sorry you’re struggling but if you actually want to quit then just show up and do basically nothing and make it a game. Make them fire you so you can ride some unemployment for a bit to get your self sorted out. Don’t rush to get another job if you can collect unemployment, it’s literally there as a safety net so you can take a minute to process your life and help you recover from a bad work situation.
Also before you do any bodily harm just quit and I’ll be hoping you can figure it out.
I was 8K in credit card.Debt, maybe 7 months ago, I’ve got it paid down to about 3000 left.Keep your head up stick to the plan. You know, it wouldn’t need to be easy.nYou’ll get it done
**National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline:** Call or Text **988**
**You need to talk to someone.**
2k is nothing with your ability to get 20-30 a hour. Get multiple jobs, door dash after work. Shouldn’t take too long with some dedication to it.
They’re trying to get you to quit, sometimes known as constructive dismissal. Don’t let them win. Stick it out, do your best, and let them do the termination.
You have two interviews lined up, which is fantastic. Clearly you have skills and experience that make you valuable to other employers. It’s gonna be hard short-term, but it looks like there are some encouraging signs on the horizon.
Finally, make sure you lean on others you trust. You don’t need to go through this alone.
Alright I gotta chime in here.
First, whatever stress you are going through is not worth losing your life over. This is but a minor hiccup and you will look back on it as just a small bump in the road.
I can relate. I was laid off from a job I really liked and did very well at 2 weeks ago. I had a company truck. I do not own a personal vehicle. I also suffer from depression, and getting that rug pulled out from under me made me feel awful. I was questioning my self worth and over analyzing any little mistake I had made over the past year, trying to pinpoint some reason why I was cut loose. Anxiety and panic, stress and boredom from being stuck inside did a number on my nerves.
As far as your job goes, as others have said here, let them fire you. That way you are eligible for whatever unemployment insurance your state provides.
Believe it or not you have the upper hand here. If you think the writing is on the wall as far as you being cut loose, start talking to friends and others in your network about other jobs. You have interviews set up, thats good. Take some time to brush up your resume. Don’t drink your sorrows away, it will only make the anxiety worse.
Best of luck, I promise you this isn’t end of the world.
No job is worth your psychological wellbeing. But what I’d suggest is to do what you can until you’re let go so that you can get unemployment. You have TONs of opportunities. You just have to find them. 2k in debt (comparatively) to a lot of other people really isn’t that bad and you can rebound quick.
Keep your head up. You can do this.
You got this brother. Hang in there.
Don’t quit until you have a new job lined up and waiting for you.
Seek professional mental health help.
You’re worth so much more than that job. If it’s draining you, you need out. Talk to a therapist and, with their help, look into FMLA benefits with HR at your current job. You can qualify for up to 12 weeks of paid time off to maybe give time to figure something out. Whether that be your health, or what’s next in your career. You’re worth it
I quit my $150k tech job last year after only 5 months with the company. About 2months later I started doing AV work part time and because of that, I’m no longer depressed and crying before and after every shift.
What is the job that’s so stressful? And what jobs are you applying for?
Take a deep breath, you don’t have a ton of debt that you’re drowning. Just don’t make financially irresponsible decisions and you can easily get out of this small hole.
You need to see a mental health professional that can help you manage your panic attacks/anxiety/ideations.
Not to dismiss you, but you currently have more money than me, less debt, and a better paying job by the sounds of things. You can def handle this, but more important than quitting your job is going to be figuring out how to manage some of this stress. I %100 promise you that you’re doing far better than some other people out there and you can manage this temporary situation you’re in.
Sorry to hear how shit things are for you right now. Personal finance is not the place to be looking for advice right now since this is not (first and foremost) a financial issue.
Ideally talk to some actual people in your life who you trust. If there’s nobody you feel comfortable reaching out to there are crisis resources like https://988lifeline.org available in the US and plenty others if you’re outside the US.
If those options don’t work, a post somewhere like r/lifeadvice might be more useful to get responses that take into account things beyond your finances
