I have to fly across the country with a reasonable layover in DFW. I’d really like to save on food and drink costs. I don’t need much, but I wondered if there was anything nice that I should pack to make the day more tolerable. Do you have any frugal tips on what to bring to the airport that can get past screening? I really love packing peanut butter and jelly sandwich sandwiches! They always end up so delicious on a plane. Any other thoughts?

Cheese and crackers, nuts, carrots
Anytime I leave my mom‘s house after visiting she packs me carrot and celery sticks and a ham and cheese sandwich for the plane. Both work well because they can get a little squished and survive.
No matter how much food I took, I would probably eat at all while waiting for the TSA. Any case, I’ve taken raisins, crackers, mixed nuts, apples etc.
Definitely bring a sandwich and some snacks. I get super hungry on travel days and everything at the airport is super expensive, so I generally bring a tuna sandwich and some combo of pretzels, string cheese, roasted chickpeas or peas, or nuts.
