I got accepted into an ABSN program for the summer 2026 term. It's 18 months and I will be graduating in December 20 27 if all goes well however the tuition is 75K and per semester it cost $14,953.

FASFA only gave me 6250 for the current some return and the rest. I have to figure out on my own.

My credit is currently really poor and makes me an eligible to take our student loans. Every vendor that I have applied to has denied me.

I have no idea how I'm gonna pay up that 8700 and it makes me scared because if I can't pay this risk for losing my spot, my financial aid counselor said that they want the money by May 1

Can I please have some advice on what to do with my situation? I don't know any cosigners that can get a loan for me because everyone I know around me credit is bad.

I've been applying to hundreds of scholarships a day and I have so much anxiety just waiting to hear back to see if I got anything. I've been applying to scholarships in bulk like a mad woman. I don't know what to do and I'm really scared.

I hate that things are so expensive nowadays

I don’t know how I’m going to pay for nursing school

Go to a less expensive school! Look at a community college in your area. This school is way too expensive. You will be saddled with debt you cannot afford for the rest of your life.

    2. You go to a community college instead and not make the worst decision of your life (so far).

Screw wherever all your “friends are going” they’re going to be drowning in debt. I loved my community collage much more than my state one

Can you start at community college? The state of student loans and the job market in this country is hot mess and getting worse. Take out the least amount of money possible. Do not fall into the trap of “ill make it back later”.

You don’t want to saddle yourself with a whole bunch of student debt. I’m saying this from personal experience. Please ask about deferring for a semester and look into other options. Community colleges are great, or you could look into joining the military to help make tuition more affordable. There are also programs out there that will cover your tuition if you make a contacted work commitment with them for after graduation. Work as much as possible until you start school and try to save up as much money as you can. Your future self will thank you.

Sorry, but $75k for a nursing degree is just dumb.  Most state schools and community colleges have nursing programs with a lower sticker price. The school you go to makes very little difference for nursing, I say this as someone who completed my BSN from a top ranked and well respected school.  Graduate school choice can definitely matter depending on your goals but undergrad does not.  Find a cheaper option.

    7. I know someone who graduated from a community college with nursing . She’s doing great .

I will tell you what I wish a told myself at 18. Live at home, community college for two years, commute to smaller state school for two years. For my masters, I wanted the shiny prestige school that I was accepted at…I wish I applied to many schools and picked based on cost.

I felt a ton of pressure at the time to be “going somewhere.” My parents would share it with excitement. Now, I have a lot of resentment about it. I am doing fine, but life is a lot different than what I pictured due to the student debt.

This debt has become a nightmare for many people 10-15 years older than you and it’s not getting any better. Pursue your passion, nursing is a great field for the future, and you will be in demand regardless of what school you go to. Don’t get caught in the trap of “college experience.

Yikes, you do not need a 75k nursing degree. You go to community college for under 10k for an associates. Then you got a job and your employer pays for an ADN to BSN for you.

    10. $75k is crazy for nursing school. My best advice here is to go to community college for an ADN program. It costs a fraction of what a BSN from a larger university costs and both degrees lead to the same NCLEX and RN certification. Then, get your RN-BSN online. Some hospitals will cover tuition if you sign on with them, but even if you choose a place of employment without that type of incentive, an online RN-BSN is relatively cheap. I was fortunate to have gone to nursing school with a GI bill, but I know that many of the students I went to school with applied for scholarships, took out minimal student loans, or paid out of pocket.

When you go to apply for positions, nobody is going to care if you paid $75k or $20k for your nursing education.

Sometimes no is a blessing in disguise. You feel like you have to do this now because there aren’t any other opportunities. This is untrue. I got my BSN for 24k in 2018, my brother got his ADN RN for 15k last year. There are other options that dont make you take put private loans. Do a ADN program then get your BSN online. Community college is very nice for nursing because right out of college you get paid 60k+, and that can all be yours and you wont be dealing with predatory loan companies.
